In 1865, as commanding general, Ulysses S. Grant led the Union Armies to victory over the Confederacy in the American Civil War. As an American hero, Grant was later elected the 18th President of the United States (1869–1877). As President, Grant presided over the government much like he had run the Army. His leadership, honest disposition and innate intelligence enabled Grant to unite the country and foster a new beginning for the once divided Nation. The U.S. Grant pen is made from an exclusive red and blue marbled resin representing the colors of America; each one is carefully turned and polished to a vibrant luster with silver-plated rings and clip. The General’s signature is engraved on the barrel. A silver coin with the bust of Grant is found on the top cap. The fountain pen has a German-made, silver-plated steel nib.
