The LeBoeuf Pen Company proudly honors the legendary author Mary Shelley and her masterpiece novel, Frankenstein with this stunning limited Edition Fountain pen and Roller Ball

Mary Shelley’s gothic horror novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus was published in 1818 and is widely considered to be the first science fiction novel. Frankenstein depicts the story of Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant scientist who creates an unnamed monster out of dismembered body parts. Horrified by his creation, Frankenstein agonizes over what he has done as the monster escapes and runs amok. While many adaptations depict Frankenstein’s monster as malevolent, Shelley’s novel portrays him as an intelligent and articulate creature who is driven to extremes by his creator’s cruel rejection.

Frankenstein was published in 1818 when Shelley was just 20 years old. Due to its macabre and controversial contents, Shelley initially published the novel anonymously, and many readers wrongly assumed the author was either Percy Shelley, who wrote the preface, or Mary’s father, William Godwin, to whom the book was dedicated. Frankenstein turned out to be an instant hit

Frankenstein continues to be adapted in print, on screen, and for the stage. The first film adaptation of Shelley’s novel was a short silent film produced by Thomas Edison in 1910. However, Frankenstein’s most iconic look stems from James Whale’s 1931 film Frankenstein, in which Boris Karloff portrays the hulking, square-headed monster with bolts in his neck that most of us think of when we hear the name Frankenstein. That film also gave us the famous line often associated with the story: “It’s alive! It’s alive!”.  From comedies such as Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein to musicals such as The Rocky Horror Picture Show to animated films such as the Hotel Transylvania franchise, the list of Frankenstein reimaginings keeps growing. More than 200 years after it was published, artists continue to be inspired by Shelley’s masterpiece.
